Our Journey

QuadraShip International has been a global leader in international shipping and logistics since our establishment in 1990. Based in the strategic port city of Tema, Ghana, we have grown from a regional shipping agent into a worldwide maritime logistics provider with operations spanning six continents.

Founded by shipping visionary Dr. Alexander Nielsen and a team of five dedicated maritime professionals, QuadraShip began with a single chartered vessel and a bold vision: to create a world-class shipping company headquartered in Africa that would connect global markets with uncompromising reliability. In our first year, we handled just 20,000 tonnes of cargo, primarily cocoa exports from Ghana to European markets.

The early 1990s marked our foundational period, during which we focused on building essential infrastructure and establishing our reputation for reliability. By 1995, we had expanded our service offerings to include customs brokerage, warehousing, and documentation services, growing our annual throughput tenfold to 200,000 tonnes.

Shipping containers and logistics operations

The late 1990s witnessed our strategic international expansion, with the establishment of our first overseas offices in Rotterdam, Singapore, and Miami. This period also saw the implementation of our first digital tracking system, revolutionizing cargo visibility for our clients. By our tenth anniversary in 2000, we had transformed from a local operator to an emerging global player with a diverse multinational team of 50 professionals.

The early 2000s brought significant challenges as the shipping industry underwent massive consolidation, but we seized this opportunity to specialize in niche routes and cargoes that larger carriers overlooked. Our investment in specialized handling equipment for project cargo and hazardous materials opened new markets, while our commitment to personalized service helped us retain clients even as industry giants competed for market share.

Our greatest test came during the 2008 global financial crisis, when shipping volumes plummeted worldwide. While many competitors downsized or disappeared, QuadraShip's conservative financial management allowed us to not only weather the storm but expand by acquiring distressed assets at favorable prices. We emerged from the crisis stronger, with an expanded fleet and enhanced capabilities.

The 2010s became our decade of technological transformation. We invested heavily in proprietary logistics software, pioneered blockchain documentation systems, and built an integrated global network that seamlessly connected shippers across continents. By 2015, our digital capabilities had become a key competitive advantage, with clients from 45 countries relying on our systems for shipment management.

Recent years have seen QuadraShip evolve into a truly integrated global supply chain partner. With offices in 36 strategic locations worldwide, a dedicated team of over 250 professionals representing 27 nationalities, and handling capabilities for everything from containerized cargo to specialized project freight, we now offer end-to-end logistics solutions across all major trade lanes. Our annual cargo volume has grown to 5.2 million tonnes, connecting manufacturers, importers, exporters, and consumers across every inhabited continent.

This decade transformed QuadraShip from a regional player into an international contender. We implemented our first computerized global tracking system in 1996, followed by strategic entry into international container freight operations. By 1998, we had established liaison offices across Europe, Asia, and North America, creating a truly global presence. The early 2000s brought further advancement with ISO 9001 certification, the establishment of our dedicated project cargo division, and implementation of Electronic Data Interchange systems for customs documentation.
